The Seersucker Stroller

Originating in India, the durable cloth became known as Seersucker because of its Persian name, shir o shekar, meaning ‘milk and sugar’, in reference to its crease-free combination of smooth and rough stripes. The effect was originally produced using alternating silk and cotton warps, when washed, the cotton shrank while the silk remained as before, thus creating the characteristic wrinkles. Nowadays, instead of silk, cottons are commonly used, and a skilful alternation of tighter and looser warps and wefts during the weaving process. The cloth is both lightweight and durable and is a fine choice for the warmer months as it is both airy and because of the wrinkle texture its stays crease free.

Our Seersucker of choice for a stroll around Castle Fraser is the Engineered Garments Andover jacket, along with the Highland Parka, just in case.
